Our Story

Building a vibrant writing community in Evanston since 2007.

Our Mission

"The Evanston Writers Workshop is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a supportive environment where writers of all levels can improve their craft, share their work, and connect with the local literary community."

Who We Are

The Evanston Writers Workshop (EWW) was founded by a writer looking for a community of writers. We believe that writing doesn't have to be a solitary journey. Whether you are a professional novelist, a student, or someone just starting your first memoir, our workshops provide the structure and feedback necessary to take your work to the next level.

What We Do

Through our specialized critique groups—covering Fiction, Memoir/Nonfiction, Screenplay, and Poetry—we offer workshop-style sessions where attentive readers provide direct, constructive, and actionable feedback. We meet both in person at local Evanston favorites like Art Maker's Outpost, Sketchbook Brewery and virtually via Zoom to ensure our community remains accessible to everyone. We are a City of Evanston affiliate organization and a 501(c)3 Not For Profit.
