Critique

Meets: In-person at Art Maker's Outpost in Evanston the first and third Wednesday and Online the fourth Tuesday

One of two foundational programs of EWW, the Critique Group is a group of professional and aspiring writers who help each other polish their writing. Through workshop-style critique, writers have the opportunity to receive direct feedback from attentive readers who understand the craft of writing.

Screenplay

Meets: 2nd Tuesday of the month (7:00-9:00pm via Zoom)

We're a group of professional and aspiring writers who help each other polish their writing through workshop style critique. Writers receive direct, constructive, and actionable feedback from those who understand the craft of screenwriting.

  • Intermediate to Advanced levels (18+).
  • Critique up to 3 submissions (10 pages max) per meeting.
  • Members only for submitting work; all welcome to critique.
  • Must RSVP to each session to receive submissions.

Memoir/Nonfiction

Status: Seeking a new facilitator

This group meets once a month to critique nonfiction in a safe space. The group is currently looking for a new facilitator and will be back up and running soon.

Long Development

This group provides feedback and critique of longer, more developed pieces ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 words. The goal is to analyze and give overview-type feedback focused on the bigger picture of a work — including plot, premise, structure, and consistent voice — rather than line-level edits.

Poetry

Meets: 2nd Thursday of the month (7:00-9:00pm at Sketchbook Brewery)

The Poetry Group meets for critique in a relaxed setting. Submit 1-2 poems via the submission form.
